Benson's First Birthday

I made a brownie farm for his Birthday pig bath and all

All day I felt like I was making everything for a pretend Birthday.  There is no way that my BABY could be one.  We had a pretty chill day just getting things ready and making sure Benson got his naps in. He is getting three top teeth in all at once so he has not been the happiest little boy. Bret got home earlier from school than we were planning which was nice so we had dinner skyped family and got all the last minute things in order before some friends came over for brownies, ice cream and hot fudge.  We sang happy birthday and Benson ate a whole plate full of dessert.  I started to wipe him off when he was done and then quickly realized he needed a full on bath to get it all off of him.  Everything turned out good and Benson loved playing with all of his friends.  He is very much a people person and just loves to have others around.    I love my little stinker boy and have mixed feelings about him growing up but I am loving being his mom and love watching him learn and explore new things. Happy Birthday Benson!  Mommy loves you!

Back to Housework

Now that we are back in Mississippi it seems so quiet and lonely without family all around!  I am trying to get back into the routine of things and it is fun to have my little helper Benson around to get all the chores done with. Although it seems to take double the amount of time, but hey I guess I have the time.  He makes me smile at all the different things he does. He is growing up way too fast and is getting in to everything.

A Day At The Airport

We had an eventful time trying to fly back home since we were Stand by passengers. Our goal was to fly out friday the 4th. We new it would probably be a long day at the airport, but we did not imagine the rollercoaster of anxiety we would go through!  Bret had to be back to school on Monday so he was more stressed than I.  There were three straight flights into MEM from SLC so at the first one it was overbooked so they were looking for people to give up there seats for compensation so we knew quickly there was no chance for us on that plane but what worried us was the amount of Stand by passengers in front of us on the list there were about ten.  We figured they would probably follow us over to the next flight that left at two.  Sure enough we saw familiar faces when we got there.  We walked around the airport, got some food, let Benson loose to play, Bret looked up all of the possible ways to get back to Memphis and realized there was no good way to get back everything was full.  I talked to the front desk helpers at the gate and she looked up flights for us and said the same thing everything is pretty full.  So our hope to fly home was dimming and Bret's stress to get back to school grew rapidly, he even looked up the cost to rent a car and drive back.  We did not make it on the two o'clock flight but the standby passengers in front of us decided to go different routes so we were now one and two on the list for the five o'clock flight.  So our hope was brightened once again but we knew a lot could happen in the next three hours so we went crazy waiting to see what would happen.  Once we got to the five o'clock gate and it was getting close I went up and asked what are chances were and he said as of right now you have a seat.  So we were really hoping no one else would show up and I listened to every conversation he had with other passengers just to make sure we had a chance.  Then I saw we were cleared and he called us up to get our tickets.  I was shaking Bret because I could not believe it.  As he was giving us our seat assignments he said never mind a family of five missed there connection and they will take the seats.  We had to go sit back down.  He called over the intercom saying the flight was oversold and asked if anyone wanted to give up there seat for a voucher.  No one took the offer but we were still sure that there was no way to get on the plane.  They boarded the plane and than the family of five showed up.  I listened carefully as he told them that there was only four seats so they could send four or they could all wait and fly out the next day.  They deliberated and finally decided to stay.  Bret was already walking around trying to blew off some worked up stress so I yelled over at him and said we are getting on they decided to stay and he did not believe it. He was so relieved after the plane doors shut and we backed away from the gate.  That was our Crazy adventure at the Airport we were so lucky to get on that plane there were a lot of people trying to get out of that Airport.

Christmas

I was so lucky that the Williams let us use some of there Buddy Passes so we could fly in for Christmas! Thank you so much!!  I flew in early with Benson to get all the partying started on Dec.1. while Bret took all of his finals.  We had fun at the Howell party seeing all the cousins, We visited Nana, the Grandparents and did a lot of shopping and eating before Bret flew in.  Then when Bret flew in on the 15th we packed up from my parents and moved ever so far up the street to stay at Bret's parents.  Christmas Eve we had so much fun at my parents with yummy ribs, fun games and family.  Unfortunately Benson did not get to play the role of baby Jesus in the Nativity Scene he went to bed too early. There was too much excitement for the little guy.  We woke up early Christmas Morning and went down to my parents to see what Santa brought and open gifts.  We all got very spoiled.  Jacob Skyped us from Argentina and it was so fun to see and hear from him, he is a great missionary and doing really well!  Then back up the street we went to carry on the Christmas morning fun with Bret's parents where once again we were very spoiled!  It was a really good Christmas and it was so fun to be around family and have Benson to share it with!

Benson's First Christmas

Holidays

I am just catching up on all of the fun during the Holidays.  We started it off with Rock and Roll Santa at the Graceland lighting.  It was fun and quick!  Benson did not mind Santa just wondered what was going on.

 THANKSGIVING

We got together with lots of friends at the Sloans (Thank you very Much!)  It was a lot of delicious food and fun to sit around and chat.  Benson was in heaven with all the food.  Becca bet me $20.00 that I would not be able to eat everything on my plate, and I did so pay up Becca ha ha.
